CHENNAI: Police are probing the death of a man whose body was found floating inside an under-construction sewage treatment plant at Palavakkam on Wednesday. Preliminary investigations have suggested the death to be a suicide.

Residents noticed a foul stench emanating from the site and spotted a body floating inside the well. Police and rescue personnel retrieved the body and sent it to a hospital for a post-mortem.

Police found a bag near the body containing medical records issued by the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. The documents identified the deceased as Dinesh and revealed that he had been treated at the hospital on January 1 after allegedly consuming rat poison.
