Chennai man arrested for swindling ₹ 70L by promising jobs

CHENNAI: Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the city police have arrested a 52-year-old man from Perambur who allegedly cheated several persons by promising them jobs in the State government.

The arrested person was identified as S Dakshinamoorthy of Vasudevan Street in Perambur.

Police said that Dakshinamoorthy claimed to have contacts with higher officials in government and promised people of jobs in electricity department, noon meal department, public sector undertakings, office assistant at the Secretariat among others.

Police registered a case based on a complaint from Gokul of Kancheepuram. Investigations revealed that Dakshinamoorthy had swindled more than Rs 70 lakh from at least nine persons.

He was picked up from his hideout on Saturday. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
