Man arrested for robbing phone, cash in Otteri

CHENNAI: Police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with a robbery in Otteri, where a victim was threatened and robbed of his mobile phone and Rs 500 cash.

The stolen phone has since been recovered. The victim, Ravi Prasad (25), a resident of Sivasakthi Amman Koil Street in West Mambalam, had gotten married 11 months ago. On April 14, 2026, following a fight, his wife left for her mother’s home in Otteri.

Later, Ravi had gone there for a reconciliation when he found the house locked. While waiting nearby, two unidentified men approached him and threatened him before snatching his mobile phone and Rs 500.

Based on his complaint at the Secretariat Colony Police Station (Crime), police registered a case, arrested Eri Ashwin Thomas (24) of Flowers Road, Purasawalkam, on Thursday, and also recovered Ravi’s phone. Ashwin was produced before a court on the same day and remanded to judicial custody. Police are continuing their search for the second accused.
