Chennai gold price surges by Rs 1,440, silver costs Rs 260 per gram on April 6, 2026 evening

CHENNAI: Gold prices in the city surged sharply on Monday evening (April 6), increasing by Rs 1,440 per sovereign (8 grams).

During the morning session, gold had dropped by Rs 1,120 to sell at Rs 1,10,480 per sovereign and Rs 13,810 per gram.

22-carat gold is now priced at Rs 1,11,920 per sovereign and Rs 13,990 per gram, marking an increase of Rs 180.

Silver prices increases

Silver prices increases by Rs 5 to cost at Rs 260 per gram (Rs 2,60,000 per kg) on April 6 evening.

Gold rate today vs gold rate on this day, last year

Gold remains significantly higher compared to last year. Prices have surged from Rs 66,280 per sovereign (Rs 8,285 per gram) on April 6, 2025, to Rs 1,11,920 per sovereign (Rs 13,990 per gram) on April 6, 2026, marking an increase of Rs 45,640 or about 68.8%.
