Chennai gold price plunges by Rs 1,040, silver costs Rs 255 per gram on April 7, 2026

CHENNAI: A day after rising by 1,440, gold plunged by Rs 1,040 per sovereign (8 grams) on Tuesday (April 7).

The yellow metal is now priced at Rs 1,10,880 per sovereign and Rs 13,860 per gram, after a decrease of Rs 130.

On April 6, gold had fallen by Rs 1,120 in the morning only to rise by 1,440 per sovereign in the evening, trading for Rs 1,11,920 per sovereign and Rs 13,990 per gram.

Silver prices reduce

Silver prices reduced by Rs 5 to sell for Rs 255 per gram (Rs 2,55,000 per kg) on April 7.

Gold rate today vs gold rate on this day, last year

Gold remains significantly higher compared to last year. Prices have surged from Rs 66,280 per sovereign (Rs 8,285 per gram) on April 7, 2025, to Rs 1,10,880 per sovereign (Rs 13,860  per gram) on April 7, 2026, marking an increase of Rs 44,600 or about 67.290%.
