Chennai: Gold price plunge on May 1; check how much it costs

CHENNAI: Gold had a fall of Rs 400 per sovereign (8 grams) on May 1 (Friday).

The yellow metal is now priced at Rs 1,12,400 per sovereign and Rs 14, 050 per gram, with no change.

On April 30, gold was priced at Rs 1,14,000 per sovereign and Rs 14,250 per gram.

Silver prices dropped

Silver prices decreased by Rs 5 to sell for Rs 265 per gram (Rs 2,65,000 per kg) on May 1. On April 30, it was priced at Rs 270 per gram.

Gold rate today vs gold rate on this day, last year

Gold remains significantly higher compared to last year. Prices have surged from Rs 70,200 per sovereign (Rs 8,775 per gram) on May 1, 2025, to Rs 1,12,400 per sovereign (Rs 14, 050per gram) on April 30, 2026, marking an increase of Rs 42,200 or about 62.45%.
