Chennai gold price drops by Rs 680 on August 19, 2026; check today's gold, silver rate

CHENNAI: The price of gold in the city decreased by Rs 680 per sovereign on Wednesday (August 19).

The yellow metal is now priced at Rs 1,13,640 per sovereign and Rs 14,205 per gram, after a decrease of Rs 85 per gram.

Earlier on August 18, the price of 22-carat gold stood at Rs 1,14,320 per sovereign and Rs 14,290 per gram.

Silver prices remain unchanged

Meanwhile, silver prices also decreased by Rs 5, to sell for Rs 250 per gram (Rs 2,50,000 per kg) on August 19.

On August 18, silver was sold at Rs 255 per gram.

Gold rate today vs gold rate on this day, last year

Gold remains significantly higher compared to last year. Prices have increased from Rs 73,880 per sovereign (Rs 9,235 per gram) on August 19, 2025, to Rs 1,13,640 per sovereign (Rs 14,205 per gram) on August 19, 2026, marking an increase of Rs 39,760 or about 53.81%.
