Chennai: Four boys attack youth from Odisha with machetes, held

The argument broke out among them while travelling on a suburban train

DTNEXT Bureau

CHENNAI: The Tiruttani town police on Sunday arrested four minor boys for attacking a 20-year-old Odisha youth with machetes and filming it, near the old Railway quarters.

The argument broke out among them while travelling on a suburban train. The victim, Suraj (20) of Odisha, had come to Chennai after a quarrel with his parents and has since been surviving by doing menial jobs.

Police said that the incident happened on Saturday evening when Suraj was travelling on a Chennai-Tiruttani EMU local. When the train reached Tiruvalangadu, the four minors, who were allegedly in an inebriated state, boarded the same compartment. They were carrying weapons in their bag to film videos for social media.

They picked up an argument with Suraj and then took him to the abandoned quarters near Tiruttani railway station, where they attacked him and fled the scene.

The youths were arrested and sent to a government home for boys.
