CHENNAI: A fire broke out at a shopping mall on Arcot Road in Vadapalani on Monday afternoon after an accident at the outlet of a global fast-food chain in the mall, causing panic among mall goers.

No persons were injured. Probe revealed that staff at the restaurant had heated oil on a stove, which led to the fire.

The restaurant and the surrounding area were engulfed in flames. Mall security guards and shop employees safely evacuated the public.

Before fire personnel from Koyambedu and JJ Nagar rushed to the spot, the fire spread to some areas on the ground floor.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control.

Vadapalani police registered a case.
