Chennai: Cops transferred for Pongal fest in stations

According to the police sources, disciplinary action was initiated as the Station House Officers failed to maintain decorum inside the police station.

CHENNAI: Tambaram Police Commissioner A Amalraj transferred Inspectors of Pallavaram and Chromepet police stations to the Vacancy Reserve after videos of Pongal celebrations at police stations, in which police personnel were dancing to film songs, went viral on social media.

According to the police sources, disciplinary action was initiated as the Station House Officers failed to maintain decorum inside the police station.

After a preliminary enquiry, Inspectors Palanivel and Dayal, attached to Pallavaram and Chromepet police stations, respectively, were transferred to the Vacancy Reserve.

Disciplinary action was also initiated against 25 other police personnel in the ranks of sub-inspectors and constables - four SIs and 10 constables attached to the Pallavaram police station and one SI and 10 constables attached to the Chromepet police station.

The personnel were transferred to the Armed Reserve (AR) for a day and told to report back to their stations with a strict warning.
