India-Aus Chepauk ODI: 13 held for selling tickets in black

The match is underway with Australia losing four wickets for 131 runs in the 28th over.

CHENNAI: City police on Wednesday booked 13 persons for selling tickets for the India-Australia ODI (One Day International) cricket match at inflated rates near the M A Chidambaram stadium in Chepauk.

Police seized 32 tickets and Rs 14,540 from them. Police had increased vigil in and around Chepauk based on a tip-off that several persons are selling tickets for the cricket match at inflated rates.

Police personnel looked for sales of ‘tickets in black’ on Walajah Salai, Victoria hostel road, Bells Road, and Chepauk MRTS (Mass Rapid Transport System) railway station among other places and rounded up 13 persons.

The arrested persons were identified as J John (31), D Joseph (24), K Rajesh (32), S Udhayakumar (32), V Prasad (30), S Srinivasan (41), L Thanigaivel (33), A Prakash (28), R Gajendran (25), A Udayasankar (29), A Alexander (35) - all from different parts of Chennai.

Apart from them, Police also arrested Sourath Ashish (23) of West Bengal and S Ramchandar (51) of Hyderabad.
