CHENNAI: A city college student was arrested for pelting stones at an MTC bus and damaging the vehicle.

The police said that the arrested student was part of a group of students who intercepted an MTC bus and created havoc near Marina Beach on Friday.

The bus (route no 25) operating along the Poonamallee-Anna Square route was plying along Kamarajar Salai near the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board office, when the incident happened.

At a traffic signal, around 20 college students ran towards the bus, banged on its metal body, and demanded that the doors be opened, police said.

As the bus moved, one of the students threw a stone at the rear automatic door and shattered the glass. The group then fled from the spot.

Based on a complaint by the MTC staff, the police arrested Anbarasan (20), a student of a city college. Police said efforts are under way to identify and trace the other students involved in the incident.
