Chennai City police recover 1,193 stolen phones, return them to owners

Chennai CoP Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, on Friday, returned as many as 1,193 stolen mobiles phones, worth near Rs 1.2 crore, to their owners at a function in Egmore

The task was carried out by newly formed cyber cells, now functioning in all 12 police districts in the city, using their IMEI numbers, and with the help of service providers

While the city police chief handed over as many as 240 mobile phones personally, the rest were given to owners by the higher officials of each police district

While South zone recorded a recovery of 424 mobile phones, north zone recovered 333 phones from the criminals, west zone 219 and the east zone 217 mobile phones
