CHENNAI: As part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, the Election Commission of India has deployed additional Assistant Electoral Officers across all 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu, with Alandur and Sholinganallur receiving the highest allocation, for addition and correction in electoral rolls.

Alandur has been assigned 74 Assistant Electoral Officers, while Sholinganallur has received 63 officers, largely due to the high number of voter deletions recorded during the revision process in these constituencies. In contrast, some reserved constituencies have been allotted fewer officers. Madhurantakam, for instance, has been given only five officers despite having 2.05 lakh voters in the draft roll.

Sholinganallur and Alandur saw significant deletions during the enumeration exercise, with 2.18 lakh voters removed from the rolls in Sholinganallur and 1.32 lakh in Alandur.

“When appointing electoral officers, the Election Commission took into account the volume of deletions in each Assembly constituency. Based on that assessment, Sholinganallur and Alandur were allotted more officers,” an Election Department official said.

The Election Commission expects a high volume of applications for name inclusion during the claims and objections period.

So far, around 1.85 lakh Form 6 applications have been submitted through Booth Level Officers.
