Chargesheet filed against 385 ganja peddlers in 25 days

In a special drive, police also met more than 300 previous drug offenders and advised them to not indulge in drug peddling on Tuesday.

CHENNAI: In the past 25 days, Chennai city police have filed chargesheet against 385 ganja peddlers in Chennai.

On Tuesday alone, police filed chargesheet against 32 ganja peddlers, they said.

In a special drive, police also met more than 300 previous drug offenders and advised them to not indulge in drug peddling on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, police registered nine cases and arrested 13 persons. Around 4.5 kg of ganja was seized.

A senior police officer said that city police have intensified their campaign against ganja peddling and have registered 592 cases and arrested 908 persons and more than 1,562 kg of ganja was seized upto September this year. Apart from this, police have also showed increased seizures in tablets- 42,000 this year, so far.

“The enforcement has become effective which is reflective on the street prices in ganja,” Commissioner Shankar Jiwal said recently.

Police sources said that most ganja in the city are sourced from Andhra Pradesh and Tripura.
