Chain-snatchers relieve 2 women of 17 sovereigns

Chain snatchers continue to strike at women in public and in latest case on Tuesday snatched 17 sovereigns from two women in Puzhal and Madhavaram.

In Puzhal, two men, wearing masks, reached a grocery store in Balaji Nagar on Tuesday afternoon and snatched 14 sovereigns from the shopkeeper Selvi (52) on the pretext of buying soft drinks. The incident happened when Selvi’s husband Mari Selvam had gone home for lunch. When Selvi was trying to take the soft drink bottles from the refrigerator, the duo snatched her chain and fled the spot on a two-wheeler.

Based on her complaint, Puzhal police have registered a case and launched a hunt for the suspects.

Similarly, a bike-borne duo snatched three sovereigns from a 56-year-old pedestrian. The victim Santhi of Kumaran Nagar was walking to a nearby shop when two men on a bike followed her and snatched the chain. Madhavaram police have registered a case.

Meanwhile, a mobile phone snatcher was nabbed by the public and handed over to police in Puzhal.

The accused Sarathkumar of Washermenpet, snatched a mobile phone from a guest worker, Sheik, in Puthagaram and was trying to speed away on his bike when passers-by secured him.

He was handed over to Puzhal police and a case has been registered against him.
