The arrested was identified as Abhinandan Singh, Stenographer, Non-Corporate Ward-Income Tax Department, Chennai.

The case was registered on Monday, based on a complaint alleging that the accused official had demanded a bribe equivalent to 10% of outstanding Income Tax dues amounting to Rs. 19 lakh for the Assessment Year 2020-2021. In return, the accused promised to nullify the dues.
