Canteen worker arrested for sexual assault of woman at Nandanam college

According to a Maalaimalar report, the accused, identified as Gunasekar, a native of Pudukottai, was working at the college canteen where the woman was also employed. Police said the assault took place within the college premises. Investigations have further revealed that five persons were involved in sexually assaulting the woman.

CHENNAI: Police have arrested a canteen worker in connection with the sexual assault of a 22-year-old woman inside the campus of a college in Nandanam, following a complaint lodged by the survivor, officials said on Thursday.

According to a Maalaimalar report, the accused, identified as Gunasekar, a native of Pudukottai, was working at the college canteen where the woman was also employed. Police said the assault took place within the college premises. Investigations have further revealed that five persons were involved in sexually assaulting the woman.

The survivor reportedly approached a college security guard in distress and narrated the incident, after which a complaint was immediately lodged with the Saidapet police. Based on the complaint, a case was registered and an investigation was launched.

Gunasekar was subsequently arrested, while search operations are under way to trace the remaining accused, police said.
