Call taxi driver hacked to death by 10-member gang in Medavakkam

A 33-year-old man was hacked to death by a 10-member gang in Medavakkam and Pallikaranai police have arrested one of the suspects.

It was passers-by who noticed a man lying unconscious with injuries all over his body on the lake bed behind the Medavakkam junction bus stand on Sunday morning. On information, Pallikaranai police rushed to the spot and sent his body to Chromepet Government Hospital for post-mortem.

After the deceased was identified as Shamkumar of Sembakkam, a call taxi driver, preliminary inquiries revealed that Shamkumar had an ongoing enmity with Ajith and Shiva of the same locality and there was a clash between them in Selaiyur on Saturday. While police secured one Rakesh of Saidapet, investigation with him revealed that Ajith and Shiva invited Shamkumar on the pretext of holding compromise talks and hacked him to death with weapons.

A case of murder has been registered and a hunt has been launched for the other nine suspects — Ajith, Shiva, Sathish, Magesh, Siva, Mani, Sathishkumar, Naren and Vinoth.
