Business loss drives 30-yr-old to commit suicide in Madipakkam

A 30-year-old man committed suicide at his house in Madipakkam on Monday due to business loss during the lockdown.

The deceased, Sunil, hailing from Karnataka, was staying at a rented house in Ram Nagar, Madipakkam. Sunil, who owned a hotel, used to buy old cars and sell them after refurbishing. The police said that all his businesses had completely gone under for the past six months and he could not pay interest for the money he borrowed.

On Monday, neighbours noticed that his house was locked till evening and there was no response even after repeated knocks. Soon, the Madipakkam police were informed and the team, which arrived at the spot, broke open the door. They found Sunil hanging from the ceiling inside his living room. His body was retrieved and sent for post-mortem examination to the Chromepet Government Hospital. The police registered a case and have also informed his parents in Karnataka.
