Burns on 2-year-old girl’s body: Police detains mother and lover

Police said that the woman Banu, 28 of Sastri Nagar was married to one Vimalraj three years ago. The couple have a two-year-old girl child.

CHENNAI: Police have detained a woman and her lover, for allegedly inflicting cigarette burn injuries on a two-year-old child at Sastri Nagar on Thursday.

Police said that the woman Banu, 28 of Sastri Nagar was married to one Vimalraj three years ago.

The couple have a two-year-old girl child. Banu after getting separated from her husband developed an affair with one Jegan from the same locality. She started to live with him along with her child Angel. On Thursday, the child suffered from a health complication when Banu informed her mother Kanniammal over phone.

The child’s grandmother, who rushed to the home, took the child to the Institute of Child Health and hospital in Egmore. The medical team found that the child had burn injuries on her face and body. The doctors notified the Sastri Nagar police station about it. Sastri Nagar police brought the woman and her lover to the police station and began their inquiry. The woman told the police that she and her lover used to physically harm the child in an intoxicated condition. Police are questioning the duo further.
