Bundle of steel rods fall on MTC bus at CMRL site, 5 injured

A portion of the MTC bus got completely mangled in the accident, which happened around 5 am.

CHENNAI: At least five persons, including two staff of MTC (Metropolitan Transport Corporation) were injured after a bunch of steel rods bundled together snapped and fell off a Crane engaged in Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) work near Ramapuram on Tuesday morning.

A portion of the MTC bus got completely mangled in the accident, which happened around 5 am.

Police sources said that the MTC bus was ferrying drivers and conductors from Kundrathur to the MTC depot in Alandur.

The steel rods, about 30 metres in length, were bundled as a pack and brought in a truck to the site in Ramapuram. When the crane which lifted the bundle, a cable snapped and the rods fell on the MTC bus which was plying along Mount Poonamalee road.

The injured persons are admitted to a private hospital for treatment.
