Boat drifts ashore after hull damage, 6 fishermen rescued

Hours after the fishermen were rescued, the boat was beached near the Sathurangapattinam beach with severe damage to the hull and other parts, rendering it useless for fishing.

CHENGALPATTU: L Tension prevailed near the shores of Sathurangapattinam when a big fishing boat worth Rs 30 lakh that had six fishermen on board developed a crack and began to take in water after its hull breached.

Hours after the fishermen were rescued, the boat was beached near the Sathurangapattinam beach with severe damage to the hull and other parts, rendering it useless for fishing. Srinivasan, from Kasimedu, who owns the speedboat took it out on a fishing trip along with five other fishermen a few days ago. However, when they were fishing nearly 12 nautical miles near Sathurangapattinam, they noticed that hull had a huge crack through which water was rapidly filling.

Since there was immense damage, it cannot be used for fishing anymore following which the boat owner has decided to scrap it. Locals including several children were seen taking selfies with the boat.
