Bike theft gang busted, five nabbed with eight stolen two-wheelers

Kannagi Nagar police have arrested a five-member gang who stole two-wheelers parked on the streets and seized eight bikes from them.

Sarjan George of Karapakkam found his two-wheeler parked in front of his house missing in the wee hours of Thursday and alerted the police control room. Kannagi Nagar police, who were on night patrol, rushed to the spot and secured one J Prithvi Raj (19) from the neighbourhood and investigation revealed that he was part of a gang that targeted bikes. Further investigation led to the arrest of another suspect D Pradeep Kumar (19). 

Based on their inputs, a special team was formed to nab the absconding accused Ajay (19), Xavier (23) and M Surya (21), all hailing from Kannagi Nagar, leading to their arrests. 

As many as eight stolen bikes were seized from them before they were remanded in judicial custody on Saturday. 

Similarly, Tondiarpet police arrested two men and seized two stolen two-wheelers from them. The accused M Haribabu (22) of Washermenpet and E Arunraj (24) of Gummidipoondi. The duo was arrested based on a complaint by K Manoj Kumar of Old Washermenpet that the latter’s bike was stolen by unidentified persons in October. 

Police said that among the accused, Haribabu has several cases pending against him. They were remanded in judicial custody.
