Bank staff waylaid, attacked with beer bottle in Marina Beach

CHENNAI: A 29-year-old man, a staff in a private bank, who was walking on Marina beach was waylaid by a trio who attacked him with a beer bottle and took away his mobile phone on Monday night.

Police said that the incident happened around 10 30 pm. Akhil Varghese Paul, who resides at Koyambedu was walking on the beach, when he was intercepted by three youngsters, who demanded that he part away with his valuables.

When Akhil refused, they attacked him with the empty beer bottles they were carrying and escaped with the smart phone.

The banker was treated at a hospital for his injuries and filed a complaint with the Marina police.

Based on investigations, police arrested P Sabari (22) of Palaniappan Koil street in Triplicane. Investigations revealed that the two youths accompanying him were juveniles- a 17 year old and a 14 year old.

Police arrested the 14-year-old too and sent him to a government observation home for boys. Sabari was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
