CHENNAI: A woman was murdered in an autorickshaw and thrown off the vehicle at Ambattur on Tuesday night. Police later found that the woman was murdered by her estranged husband and arrested him on Wednesday.
On Tuesday night, Public alerted Police after they noticed the woman lying on a deserted stretch with cut injuries.
After checking CCTV in the neighbourhood, Police learnt that the deceased woman was driving an autorickshaw, with a man. The deceased was then identified as Devaki (24) and the accused as Chinna (32), both residents of Indira Nagar, Menambedu, Ambattur.
The couple, who were both autorickshaw drivers had been married for several years and have three children, two daughters and a son. Probe revealed that the couple had domestic troubles over Devaki spending time on Instagram, chatting with her social media friends. Recently, Devaki left and started staying at her mother’s house in Thirumullaivoyal.
On Monday evening, Chinna convinced her to return home, telling her they should live together for the sake of their three children. Believing him, Devaki went with him to their house in Indira Nagar. After talking at home, he told her to take him for a ride in the autorickshaw and sat at the backseat asking her to drive.
When they reached a secluded spot, Chinna allegedly took out a knife he had hidden and slit her throat and pushed her out of the vehicle and fled the scene. A police team traced him drinking with his friends at Kamarajapuram and secured him.
He was arrested on murder charges, produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
