Arrival and Departure of several flights delayed due to rains in Chennai; check details

The flights which arrived from Dubai, Frankfurt, Guwahati and Mumbai were diverted to Bangalore

CHENNAI: 31 Flight services were affected in the Chennai airport following the rain on Friday night.

There was heavy rain in Chennai and its suburbs in the night with high speed of winds affecting the flight services in the Chennai airport for a few hours. The flights which arrived from Madurai, Delhi, Ayodhya, Lucknow, Goa, Hyderabad, Ranchi, Mumbai, Kozhikode, Guwahati, Dubai, Bahrain and Frankfurt were made to wait in the air for a long time till the wind speed got reduced.

The flights which arrived from Dubai, Frankfurt, Guwahati and Mumbai were diverted to Bangalore. The departure of the 16 flights to Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Coimbatore, Mangalore, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kochi, Dubai, Bahrain, Kuwait, Doha, and Sri Lanka was also delayed for a few hours. At midnight once the rain and wind reduced the flight landed in Chennai airport one after another.

Meanwhile the Air India flight which departed to Port Blair with 138 passengers on Saturday morning returned to Chennai airport following bad weather in Port Blair.

The flight is expected to depart from Chennai on Sunday morning.
