CHENNAI: Animal activists have approached the Peerkankaranai police station with a complaint alleging that miscreants have poisoned and killed at least eight stray dogs in Perungalathur.

The complainants, a couple who had earlier resided in Nedunkundram Devaraja Nagar near Perungalathur had recently shifted to Tiruchy after living in the neighbourhood for about three years.

The couple, Priyanka and Naresh, used to feed the stray dogs in their neighbourhood, which was opposed by the residents there.

Meanwhile, they came to Nedunkundram on Sunday to check on the stray dogs and found that one of them was lying dead. On looking for the other dogs, they found about half a dozen dogs lying dead in the burial ground. In their complaint to the police, the couple named two residents in their erstwhile neighbourhood, whom they suspect of having poisoned the dogs.
