Ambedkar statue damaged near Chennai

Locals who noticed the damage alerted the police after which officials from district administration and police rushed to the scene.

CHENNAI: Tension prevailed at Neduvarambakkam village near Ponneri, 40 kms from Chennai on Monday morning after the statue of B R Ambedkar was found damaged. As word spread about the incident, police presence were increased in the area. Sholavaram Police registered a case and are investigating.

Two persons have been detained based on preliminary enquiries, police sources said.

According to police, the statue that was erected in 2017. Damage was done to the face and arm portion of the statue and the statue got damaged despite it being placed inside a steel cage. Police said that the damage was likely to be damaged on Sunday night.

Locals who noticed the damage alerted the police after which officials from district administration and police rushed to the scene.

The statue was covered with a cloth and police personnel were posted at the scene to prevent any untoward incidents.
