In addition, it was also announced that Class 11 exams for Chemistry, Accountancy and Geography, which were postponed due to the lockdown, would be held on June 16. Similarly, Class 12 students who could not attend the last exam held on March 24 can write the pending exams on June 18.

A senior official from the School Education Department told DT Next that the government has set up 12,690 exam centres across the State for the 9.79 lakh students appearing for Class 10 board examinations.

Earlier, it was decided to deploy about 2.21 lakh teachers and 1.65 lakh non-teaching staff for conducting SSLC exam, the official said, adding that more teachers have to be deployed after the number of exam centres were increased by about 500 due to the declaration of new containment areas.

“Therefore, the heads of all government and aided school were instructed to contact their teachers and direct them to report for duty from June 8,” he said. “It is expected that an additional 25,000 teachers and about 2,000 non-teaching staff are required for exam related works.” To ensure social distancing in evaluation centres, the fresh guidelines insisted on having only eight persons in each room, including one chief examiner, one officer for scrutiny and six assistant examiners, the official said.

“Apart from the teachers who are deployed for exam related works, rest of the teachers will be involved in works for the coming academic session,” he said adding the teachers would also assist headmasters and non-teaching staff for new admissions.
