Air Customs seize gold worth Rs 37 lakh from 4

The officials from Air Customs seized gold worth Rs 37.3 lakh from four passengers who landed at the city airport in two different cases on Friday and Thursday. In both cases, the men hailed from Ramanathapuram district and had come from Dubai.

Following suspicion, the officials intercepted two passengers, Mohamed Mursin Ibrahim (42) and Barakath Ali Sadurdeen (45), both hailing from Ramanathapuram district, who arrived from Dubai on Friday. When questioned persistently, they confessed to carrying gold in paste form concealed in their rectum. On personal search, officials found two gold paste bundles, weighing 166 gram. When extracted, there were 146 gram gold, two gold cut bits weighing 65 gram and one gold chain weighing 30 grams.

In all, 241 gram of gold, estimated to be valued Rs 12.8 lakh, was recovered and seized from the two passengers.

Similarly, two passengers, Jabeer Khan (28) and Abubacker Siddique (23), both from Ramanathapuram and both arriving here from Dubai, were intercepted at the exit by Customs officials on Thursday. When they were searched, they found two packets of gold paste weighing 574 gram on them. After extraction, 472 gram of gold valued at Rs 24.5, lakh was recovered and seized under Customs Act.
