According to the data collated by the Air Quality Index (AQI), the air quality levels in the rest of the city were within reasonable limits.

The air quality level of PM 2.5 in Manali was 64 microgram/m3, Velachery 48 microgram/m3, and Alandur 71 microgram/m3 which is close to permissible limit of 60 microgram/m3.

With the air quality level in Manali area shoot all the way to PM 2.5 300 microgram/m3just two weeks ago, the situation has now returned to normalcy. The spike was attributed to the local industries polluting the environment.

When contacted, an official of Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board said, “The pollution level in AQI is taken for every five to ten minutes. Some traffic congestion can also affect the air quality at the time.

The pollution levels keep varying all the time and the public need not panic following sporadic hikes. Currently, the pollution levels are satisfactory.”
