CHENNAI: Actor Vijay was fined Rs 500 by Chennai city traffic police for driving a vehicle with tinted glass when he travelled to his office in Panayur off East Coast Road for a fans’ meet on Sunday.

After visuals of the actor travelling in his SUV was broadcasted in news and in social media, a citizen pointed out that the car used by the actor had sun control tinted glass, which is not allowed to be used in cars as per the Supreme Court order.

When a citizen tagged the Greater Chennai Traffic Police’s twitter handle, GCTP responded that a spot fine of Rs 500 was levied for violating the rules.

Last week, the city police had slapped a fine of Rs 500 on a senior police officer’s official vehicle for driving in the wrong lane, after a citizen took a photograph of the official vehicle driving in the wrong lane and shared it on Twitter, wondering if the city police would act on one of their own. Police sources said that the vehicle is assigned to the Additional Director General of Police, Railways.
