While people using two-wheelers and cars are in general being discouraged by police as part of the stringent lockdown and the vehicles are seized, traffic police checked the vehicles plying with press, police and doctor stickers to check if they were genuine and found that 94 motorists stuck the stickers to go scot-free.

“Among the seized vehicles, nine had ppress stickers. Eight had police stickers, 42 COVID Emergency stickers, 15 Corporation stickers, and 21 had other government department stickers. Inquiries revealed that none of them was genuine. “Those who had stuck ppolice stickers claimed that their relatives were in the police department. Those vehicles were also seized,” said a senior traffic police official.

Meanwhile, city police booked 8,350 cases of lockdown violation on Monday and seized 6,778 vehicles. As many as 3,180 cases were booked for not wearing masks and not maintaining social distance at shops. So far, city police have booked 69,012 cases since June 19 for lockdown violation. The number of cases booked for not wearing masks and following social distancing for the same period is 26,886. As many as 59,533 vehicles have been impounded.
