9 kg ganja seized from duo during vehicle check in Tiruvottiyur

Sathangadu police arrested a bike-borne duo who was in possession of nine kilograms of ganja and seized their two-wheeler. A team led by inspector Rangasamy was involved in a vehicle check on Canal Road in Tiruvottiyur when they stopped a two-wheeler.

On suspicion, their bags were checked and nine kilograms of ganja concealed inside were seized. The duo was identified as R Saravanan (34) of Tiruvottiyur and P Shanmugam (31) of Triplicane. Police said Saravanan has a murder case pending against him, while Shanmugam has already been arrested for peddling ganja. The two-wheeler was seized from them before they were remanded in judicial custody. Meanwhile, Washermenpet police arrested five persons including a couple for peddling ganja in their jurisdiction. The accused were identified as D Karnan (38) of Old Washermenpet, his wife Kumudhavalli (30), B Shankar (28), B Akash (19) and S Rajesh (21) of Old Washermenpet. Based on a tip-off, police raided Karnan’s house on East Cemetary Road on Sunday and seized 1.25 kg ganja. All five were remanded in judicial custody.
