CHENNAI: A newborn baby who was brought to Chennai for heart-related treatments died mid-air on Monday evening.

The Air Mauritius flight from Mauritius was heading towards Chennai with 320 passengers on Monday evening. Leshna (born just eight days ago) was travelling with her parents Moonish Kumar (37) and Pooja (32).

As Leshna was born with some heart-related issues, parents decided to treat her at a private hospital in Chennai. However, when the flight was about to reach Chennai, her health condition became critical and the pilot had to alert the ATC for priority permission while landing.

At 6 pm, the flight landed in the Chennai airport and the medical team, who rushed inside the aircraft, checked Leshna but found that she was dead onboard. Parents were inconsolable, and the cabin crew and fellow passengers offered them words of comfort.

The airport police visited the spot and sent Leshna’s body for post-mortem to the Children’s Hospital in Egmore. The flight was originally scheduled to return to Mauritius at 6:35 pm, but following the incident, the departure was delayed by an hour.
