7 arrested for history-sheeter’s murder near Anna Nagar

CHENNAI: Chennai Police have arrested seven persons in connection with the murder of a history-sheeter, who was hacked to death in broad daylight near Naduvankarai bridge at Annai Indira Nagar near Anna Nagar on Friday.

The deceased was identified as M Sandeep Kumar (30) of Aminjikarai. Preliminary investigations revealed that he was the prime accused in the murder of one Adityan in 2018.

Out on bail recently, Sandeep has been making a living as an auto driver since then, police said. He had appeared before the court for the trial recently. On Friday afternoon, Sandeep visited a relative at Annai Indira Nagar and was returning home when an unidentified gang waylaid him and hacked him to death.

Investigations revealed that Sandeep had questioned another history-sheeter, Arvind Raj for threatening two of his friends, and demanding money.

Enraged over this, Arvind Raj along with six others hacked Sandeep to death, police said.

The arrested persons were identified as Arvind Raj (25), his brother, Ranjith (26), Karthik(22), Saravanan (30), Raja (27), Kulothungan(26) and Thameem Ansari (27).

The arrested persons were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
