5 held in Tiruvallur for operating bars beyond stipulated time

The police on Saturday raided 3 government bars in Tiruvallur and arrested five persons apart from seizing 700 bottles of liquor.

CHENNAI: In a sudden crackdown, the police on Saturday raided 3 government bars in Tiruvallur and arrested five persons apart from seizing 700 bottles of liquor.

Following reports that some government bars in surrounding areas of the district were operating beyond the stipulated time and also selling liquor at a hiked price, the police formed a special team and conducted a surprise raid in two bars in Tiruvallur bus stand and Periya Kuppam areas.

Following this, the special team arrested Venkatesan(34), Dharmadurai (23) and Daniel Praveen (25) for operating the bar well beyond the stipulated timings. "These men had stocked 500 bottles of liquor which were being sold at exorbitant prices to people who were approaching them at odd hours," police said.

Similarly, the police also raided a bar attached to a Tasmac in Kakkalur and arrested two men who were illegally selling liquor at a hiked price. The accused were identified as Vinoth (29) and Siva (28). The police seized 250 bottles of liquor from the bar during the raid. A case has been registered in connection with this and investigations are on.
