400 kg gutkha seized, one held

Police seized 400 kg of gutkha from a godown in Adambakkam and arrested a 52-year-old man on Wednesday.

On a tip-off that gutkha has been kept in a godown in the locality, Adambakkam police on Wednesday night conducted a raid at the godown and seized over 400 kgs of gutkha. Police also arrested the owner of the godown, Meeran of Kakan Nagar in Adambakkam. Police said Meeran had smuggled gutkha from Karnataka in his van and kept it in the godown with an intention to supply it to retailers. He also supplies gutkha to college students and youngsters in the locality secretly, police said.
