Casual labourer pushed to death from first floor of Mylapore MRTS station

Louis, a resident of Pattinapakkam, sustained severe injuries and later succumbed to them.

CHENNAI: In a shocking incident, a 45-year-old casual labourer died after he was pushed to the ground from the first floor of Mylapore MRTS (Mass Rapid Transport System) railway station on Sunday night.

The preliminary investigations revealed that the man fell on the escalator and to the ground under the impact of push. Passengers noticed the man lying with blood injuries and alerted the authorities. He was moved to a hospital where he was declared dead upon arrival.

Government Railway Police (GRP), Tiruvanmiyur, registered a case of murder and began investigations. The deceased man was identified as A Louis Mathias Arockiyaraj of Mylapore, a casual labourer.

The incident occurred on Sunday night. When Louis was walking towards the platform, an argument broke out between Louis and another man, police said.

The verbal duel turned into a physical altercation and both exchanged blows. In the melee, the other man attacked Louis and in the impact of the attack, he first hit the escalator and fainted. He then moved down along the escalator onto the ground. Police are perusing CCTV footage to ascertain the identity of the suspect.
