State Health Secretary Beela Rajesh has denied charges by postgraduate students of Stanley Medical College Hospital that the hospital has neither an isolation ward nor protective gears to handle nCoV cases. She also said that the four patients, including that of two Chinese nationals, have tested negative for coronavirus.

“I have personally checked the wards and has asked the dean to ensure that those entering and exiting the wards are wearing protective gears including masks and gloves,” she told DT Next.

Earlier, in a letter to the head of Internal Medicine, the students said, “Two (nCoV) symptomatic cases were admitted in the first floor and two asymptomatic cases in the sixth floor of the New Tower Block. Even after 48 hours, proper isolation and quarantine measures have not been provided for.”

A PG student told DT Next, “We are being asked to work in the ward which has these nCoV suspects, but has not been provided with any masks or gloves.”

“Neither the Health department nor the authorities at Stanley Government Hospital are proactively taking any measures when the scope of a possible fatal epidemic looms large,” said another student.
