39-year-old gets life sentence for stoning man to death

The Second Additional Sessions Court sentenced a 39-year-old man for life and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 for stoning a man to death in Aminjikarai on September 26, 2010.

According to public prosecutor VS Narayanarao, A Elango (25) was stoned to death by Kathiravan (39) due to previous enmity. The prosecution said Elango, who was earning a livelihood as an autorickshaw driver, had some dispute with his neighbour Kathiravan.


On September 26, 2010, Elango was sleeping in front of a helmet shop on EVR Road at Aminjikarai when Kathiravan came there.


The latter took a brick and smashed his head repeatedly. A 108 ambulance reached the spot after being alerted by passers-by, but Elango had died by then. The body was taken to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, and a murder case was filed against Kathiravan.


After the hearing, the court found him guilty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, and sentenced him to life in imprisonment. The judge also slapped a fined of Rs 5,000 on him.
