Chennai: A 37-year-old man was electrocuted and another man suffered burns as they came in contact with the live cables while affixing the name board of a hardware shop in Maduravoyal on Monday night.

The deceased Dinesh alias Appun of Ashok Nagar worked as a driver for a pipe supplier and the incident happened when he delivered the name board sponsored by the pipe brand to a shop in Andal Azhagar Nagar main road.

Police said that Dinesh and his helper Jayachandran reached the shop in a mini truck and carried the board to the first floor to hang it in front of the shop. "However, when Dinesh lifted the nameboard, the steel frame of the board touched the overhead live cables. Both Dinesh and Jayachandran suffered electric shock, but Dinesh was stuck under the nameboard and charred," said police.

His body was retrieved and sent for post-mortem examination, while Jayachandran, who too suffered burns, was rushed to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.
