361-sovereign burglary in Minjur: Suspects nabbed after 10 months

Ten months after 361 sovereigns were burgled from a house in Minjur, Tiruvallur police have cracked the case by arresting seven persons.

As much as 201.5 sovereigns, 1.3 kg silver articles, a car and a two-wheeler, which were bought by selling a portion of the jewellery, were seized from the accused identified as N Manikandan (30) of New Gummidipoondi, K Yuvaraj alias Danny (28) of Magaral, A Murugan (20) alias Dheena of Uthukottai, B Venkatesan (23) alias Siva of Sholavaram, R Prakash (26) of Gummidipoondi, M Ramesh (45) of Tiruvallur and P Suresh (26) of Gummidipoondi.

On January 9, 361 sovereigns of gold and diamond jewels, 5 kg of silver articles and Rs 40,000 in cash were burgled from the house of J Usha (56) of Mettupalayam village near Minjur. The total worth of the booty was estimated to be Rs 39.27 lakh, while the seized articles are said to be worth Rs 38.30 lakh. Special teams by Minjur and Tirupalaivanam police nabbed the accused after investigation. All seven were remanded in judicial custody on Monday.
