The accused were identified as Imthiyas (23) and Hussain (19) of Patalam and Irfan (25) of Vyasarpadi. The Egmore police, who were on patrol on Wednesday night, received information that the three men were fighting in public in their jurisdiction and rushed to the spot. They were secured and the police found that they were under the influence of ganja. Inquiries revealed that they snatched a mobile phone from a pedestrian near Valluvar Kottam and an argument erupted between them in Egmore as to who among them should take it.
