2-yr-old run over by school van bringing brother home

A 2-year-old girl died after she was run over by a school van on which her brother arrived, near Uthiramerur, on Tuesday morning. The deceased was identified as Ponmathi of Pudunagar in Uthiramerur.

A 2-year-old girl died after she was run over by a school van on which her brother arrived, near Uthiramerur, on Tuesday morning. The deceased was identified as Ponmathi of Pudunagar in Uthiramerur. Her father Aranagiri is a daily wage worker. According to the police, her elder brother Punidan (4) who studies in kindergarten in a private school reached home in the van around 4 pm on Monday evening. After hearing the vehicle’s horn, the girl had gone out to receive her brother. While she was standing in front of the van, the driver started the vehicle without noticing the girl. She suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the Chengalpattu Government Hospital. Ponmathi, who was under intensive care, died without responding to treatments on Tuesday morning. The Sriperumbudur police who registered a case arrested the van driver Sivashankar (28) from Uthiramerur and the van was seized.
