29-yr-old steals iPhone from shop, held

Nungambakkam police arrested a 29-year-old man for stealing an iPhone worth Rs 35,000 from a showroom.

Santhosh Varma of Thalambur was arrested based on a complaint from showroom owner P Sathishkumar of Kodambakkam. On January 22, Sathishkumar, who runs the shop at Mahalingapuram, found an iPhone missing and combed the CCTV footage. He found a man leaving the shop with the phone and submitted the evidence to Nungambakkam police along with his complaint. A case was registered and the suspect Santhosh Varma was nabbed. He was remanded in judicial custody.


Snatcher held in Red Hills

Meanwhile, Red Hills police arrested a 24-year-old phone snatcher and launched a hunt for two of his accomplices. The accused N Nandhakumar (24) of Uthukottai and his two friends had followed one M Santhosh Kumar (17) of Royapuram, a first-year polytechnic student, when the latter was returning to the hostel from Red Hills and snatched his phone on January 8. Based on his complaint, Red Hills police registered a case and arrested Nandhakumar with the help of CCTV footage. He was remanded.


Teen held for burglary

Similarly, Teynampet police arrested 19-year-old S Surya of the same locality for burgling three sovereigns, silver articles and Rs 26,000 in cash from a house in the neighbourhood. Based on a complaint from D Ilavarasi (58) on Monday, police registered a case and secured the suspect.
