28 kg gold seized during vehicle check in Chennai; four detained

CHENNAI: City Police seized 28 kg gold from a car during vehicle checks near Marina beach early on Wednesday.

The occupants in the car claimed that they were ferrying the gold to a jeweller in Sowcarpet, but since they did not have proper documents, the gold was handed over to the Income Tax department officials.

Anna Square Police personnel flagged the car during vehicle checks and found the gold.

The occupants in the car, Prakash (27), Kiran (27) of Bengaluru, Anil (45) of Sowcarpet and Paul (31) were questioned and they claimed to be traders, but there were no documents, police sources said.
