220 kg gutkha seized from duo, autos seized on Vepery High Road

Periamet police arrested two persons for smuggling gutkha products in two auto rickshaws on Saturday.

Based on a tip-off, inspector Prabhu and team intercepted vehicles on Vepery High Road around 11 am. On investigation, it was found that two men were smuggling banned tobacco products. The auto rickshaws along with the contraband weighing about 220 kg in total were seized. The accused were identified as Siddiq Ali (33) and Syed Mohammed (40) of Periamet. They were booked and remanded in judicial custody. Meanwhile, Marina police arrested a man in possession of 2 kg ganja on Saturday. On information, Mylapore police secured the man identified as P Subramani (50) of Virugambakkam when he was standing in a suspicious manner with a bike in Nochikuppam. Police said that he was selling the ganja in small sachets. Subramani was booked under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and remanded.
