2 more UK returnees test positive in State

Authorities traced and tested 52 of the 201 passengers who reached Tamil Nadu from the United Kingdom since January 8. While two of them tested positive, 47 were negative. Results of three passengers are awaited and tracing of other passengers are underway.

Continuing the declining trend in the number of new COVID cases, Tamil Nadu recorded only 671 cases on Tuesday, including six imported from other states and countries. The total number of cases in the State stands at 8,27,614.

The number of cases in Chennai dipped below 200. Only 197 new cases were reported in the city, while Coimbatore and Chengalpattu recorded 59 and 42 respectively.

At least eight more deaths were reported in the State, including three in private and five in government hospitals. So far, 12,236 deaths have been logged in the State.

As many as 827 more people were discharged from several hospitals, taking the total number of recoveries to 8,08,571. Currently, there are 6,807 active cases. On Tuesday, 60,573 more samples were tested, while 60,287 more people were tested.
